Thanks for sharing this information about mini barrels. This has been very helpful.
I have a ranch rifle in .222 rem.
Is the barrel twist the same as 223or 5.56
Anonymous, I presume you mean .223 Rem in instead of .222.
It's actually a 5.56 rifle but for some weird reason they marked it .223. I have spoken with Ruger and verified it is 5.56 and I have fired a bunch of 5.56 through my 185 series.
You can also fire .223 quite readily. The deal is that if you have a .223 rifle, you cannot fire 5.56 but if it is a 5.56 rifle (which the Mini actually is), you can fire either round.
Either way, the twist rate is the same.
Larry, The ranch rifle was chambered in 222 Rem for sales in countries which outlawed guns chambered in NATO cartridges for civilians. My 1992 ranch rifle manual states not to confuse the two calibers.
Anonymous, You can easily measure the twist in you rifle by putting a tight fitting cleaning patch on a cleaning rod. Insert the rod into the barrel, make a mark on the rod, and pull out until the mark makes a full turn. Measure this distance.
Mark, thanks for the info, learn something new every day. Can you tell me which countries require .222? Thanks, Bill
Africa I believe, imports cannot be military calibers.
What is the point of buying something like a mini 14 then in those countries when you could get an ak47 for a couple hundred bucks anywhere but the usa?
Thank you. Was wondering about my 196 series Ranch Rifle twist rate.
As I understand it, 5.56 and 223 Remington are both 223 caliber. The Ranch Rifle is marked 223 caliber. You can shoot either 5.56 or 223 Remington.
There isn't a 5.56 Ranch Rifle and a 223 Remington Ranch Rifle. They are the same gun, so there is only the 1:9 twist rate.
I have a mini series 183 and have put uncountable nato 5.56 down that barrel and glad to hear conformation that it does have a 1:10 twist. I thought it was 1:10 or 1:12. having a few beers with some buddies they kept telling me that my twist was 1:6 to 1:7 and I'm going to burn out my barrel.this is what set me to go online. thats for the info I printed it off and next time they open thier mouth it's going to be a bet who's bringing all the beer next time.

To Oleg: Thanks for crapping on this blog to advertise Pot Farm funding. I'm sure that ATF would be interested to know if you own firearms, while also cultivating a controlled substance. I hope they pay you a visit.
Specifically because it's NOT an ak.
Great info for a early mini owner. Thank-you. I just ordered a Accu-Strut.
I am really impressed with your writing skills
and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid
theme or did you modify it yourself? Either ways, keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a
nice blog like this one these days.
